"Beautiful Trap"

Artist Statement: On my personal journey through chronic illness and the accompanying pain, I've found that I create traps for myself that suck away my remaining energy and leave me too fatigued to get out of them. Usually these traps are self-created and have a beautiful outer appearance but within are the means of my eventual destruction. The idea of pretending to still have a "normal" life is the worst of these, I'm no longer able to function as I always have, and these beautiful traps help me live that lie just a little bit longer. Making beautiful art is one of the ways I escape the pain for just a little while. When I can get into the zone and go away for a while everything seems like it should. |
