"Brain Scan Fan"

Christine Pendergrass
   Cheshire, Oregon

Artist Statement:

I have been afflicted with chronic bursitis and hypermobility syndrome for over 10 years. The ceramic wall sculpture deals with the subject of pain as I focus on translating medical diagnostic tests into clay. Brain Scan Fan is informed by the visual rhythms of an electroencephalogram. The frenetic patterns streaming from the patient's head symbolize the mental frazzle that can result from the presence of pain. Coloring the brain waves in rainbow hues allude to hope for the power of the full spectrum of human potential to triumph over pain.
